Domäne Baumgartner is a historic, family-run winery in Untermarkersdorf in Austria’s Weinviertel region. Its winemaking roots date back to 1725, and for nearly 300 years the Baumgartner family has passed down viticultural knowledge across generations. Today, it remains fully family-owned and is the largest winery in Austria, combining deep tradition with large-scale modern production.
A major expansion began in 1968 when Wolfgang Baumgartner grew the estate from just 3 hectares into a major winery by expanding vineyard holdings, introducing modern cellar technology, and developing large-scale production systems. Today the winery manages around 200 hectares of vineyards and is led by the next generations of the family, including Wieland Baumgartner and Katharina Baumgartner, who continue to drive both production and innovation.
The winery is known for its fruit-driven, varietally expressive wines guided by the motto “wine is fruit in the bottle,” with a strong focus on preserving clear grape aromatics through advanced stainless steel winemaking. It has earned numerous international awards, operates under Sustainable Austria certification, and maintains long-term aging potential through extensive underground cellaring with carefully controlled conditions.
These wines deliver authentic flavors of the region by highlighting indigenous varietals from Weinviertel. Each wine is made in 1L bottles, at an affordable pricepoint and made to share.
