Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is a place of extreme beauty in the heart of Douro valley and owned by Amorim family since 1999. The family connection to the wine comes from afar, through its connection with the export houses of Vila Nova de Gaia in the cork business. Meanwhile, the dream came true and the project is now in the hands of the 4th generation of the family.
With a story longer than 250 years, the property displays conserved structures and the cellar original building from 1764, after interventions by the architect Arnaldo Barbosa. But the Quinta is much earlier than this and history confirms it as a great land belonging to the Portuguese Royal House, having been identified as its first owner in 1725. The estate has 120ha over the Douro river, along 1.5 km on the right bank, in the heart of the Douro (subregion of Cima Corgo). Of these, 85ha are planted with carefully maintained vines, all letter A, framed in the wonderful and unique UNESCO landscape.
The winery produced more than 3,500 barrels of wine from neighboring estates and it was soon 'integrated into the first demarcation of the region. The historic sites that are still preserved give notice to this historic weight. An entrepreneur spirit and family vision did however the difference because, combined with a passionate commitment to the future, determined the beginning of multiple changes to a path of oenological excellence.

The wines from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo have an authentic and rare structure, fruity aromas and a high concentration of colour. They reveal an elegant complexity in the aromas tasted in the mouth. With unparalleled balance, they masterfully reflect the exclusivity of the estate’s Terroir.
We started from here: grapes from small local wine growers, different micro-terroirs, small plots and many special ones. It was in the Douro valley and the Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo that we learned that Pomares wines harbour different aromatic nuances, flavours and textures deriving from each of the vineyards used to produce the wine.
This high end brand represents a unique wines and a fundamental piece in the history of Quinta Nova in its maximum expression of terroir.
Great Vintages are defined in terms of concentration, structure and robustness. They are the manifestation of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo’s magnificent terroir, of careful winemaking and refined ageing. Always wines with an element of tension, they manage to reveal a wonderful balance between muscle and gravity, with a long and extraordinarily precise finish.

ABOUT
A unique unoaked blend, that uses the Quinta Nova da Nossa Senhora do Carmo’s main grape varieties - Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão. It has an authentic and intense flavor that demonstrates that it does not need to be aged in an oak barrel to be sophisticated.
TASTING NOTES
Its ruby color and youthful, exuberant, and mineral aroma offer a magnificent balance between fruit, dense structure, and alcohol, and confirms that the full character of the Douro fits inside a bottle of wine, with extraordinary richness.

The wine’s intense color stimulates individual memories and transports us to the immense vineyard and rugged landscape of the Douro wine terraces. A broad journey of flavors is manifested through the density and strength of the pleasant and seductive aromas, with a more sophisticated side provided by the use of good French oak barrels. At the time of tasting it closes with a muscular structure and a juicy texture that intertwine with the body of the wine, providing for a tense, long, and deep finish.

ABOUT
We went to the highest slopes in the top of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo to pick the grapes that mature more slowly and maintain greater freshness and linearity, and to create a new wine: the Quinta Nova Blanc de Noir, a Reserva white wine made from red grapes. The beautiful Tinta Roriz grapes are the first to enter our winery. We harvest them at their perfect maturation point, so that we can extract all the components that make this wine unique and sublime.
Delicate citrus aromas combined with white stone fruit support the complex and vibrant, enigmatic aroma. With remarkable firmness granted by the red grapes, this is a compact, fresh and tense wine, offering an endless finish with great precision, as a great wine should be. Classicism combined with modern winemaking, this Reserve white wine from Quinta Nova is a thrilling wine that awakens all our senses.

The first study for monovarietal planting in the Douro region was conducted in Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, between 1979 and 1981, in conjunction with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, through the Centro de Estudos Vitivinícolas do Douro (Douro Winemaking Studies Centre). In the study, the best solar exposures were chosen in Quinta Nova to study the planting of three grape varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.
VINEYARD
The Parcela29 (Plot), planted with Touriga Nacional, has 3300 vines, a slope of 20%, and an altitude between 170 and 205 metres. It represents a unique wine and a fundamental piece in the history of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in its maximum expression of terroir. A genuine Referência (reference) that combined with century-old vines (Plot 21), results in a wine with a very elegant profile, almost feminine, contrasting with an intense structure of juicy tannins of an enormous precision. A schist texture of high gravity, the savoury profile, and the purple colour reflects the nature of the Touriga Nacional variety.

Douro is one of the wildest and most rugged regions in Portugal, carved by the valley of the Douro River and the poverty of the schistous soils. Nowhere else in Portugal is man's intervention in the landscape so evident, visible in the thousands of terraces scattered throughout the region, defying the gravity of the steep slopes where the vines are planted. For its beauty and monumentality, the region was recognized by UNESCO as a "World Heritage Site". Douro region runs along the axis of the River Douro, stretching from the Spanish border to about ninety kilometres from the city of Porto.
