In 1923, Leopold Bauer purchased a small brewery outside Vienna Brewery and opened the Bauer Family Winery & Distillery. In 1945, after the war the Bauer Family operation continued solely as a winery. In 1972, Otto Bauer purchased A. Moessmer, one of Austria’s largest wineries, including their distillery reintroducing, "Bauer’s Spirits". Today, Manfred Bauer brings his family tradition of distillation back to life to share the unique spirits of Austria with the world and being the first to import a beer brandy in the United States.
+ Family Owned
Today, we share old Bauer family recipes that date back 4 generations of winemaking and distillation. Nearly two centuries later, we haven’t changed a thing.
Leftover beer from the brewery was then distilled into brandy for local and personal consumption, creating the first Bauer’s “Beer Brandy” also known and “Bierschnapps”.

The year 2001 marked the planting of the first vineyards in modern times in Salzburg, on the Grossgmain am Untersberg. Since 2008, Frühroter Veltliner grapevines have been cultivated in the Paris Lodron compound on the famous Mönchsberg mountain that overlooks the city of Salzburg. The production is about 500 bottles a year and it sells for 40 Euros a bottle, with all proceeds being donated to the Salzburg Scouts. The Benedictine abbey Michaelbeuern has also launched a viticultural project encompassing 4,000 vines.
