Weingut Jülg is a family-owned winery nestled in Schweigen, a village bordering France at the southernmost tip of Germany's Pfalz region. Founded in 1961 by Oskar Jülg, the winery has become a leader in crafting expressive and terroir-driven wines. The Jülg family is known for their dedication to quality and a willingness to push boundaries. Oskar Jülg, a pioneer in the region, began planting Pinot Noir clones from Burgundy alongside traditional German grape varieties. This commitment to exploration continues today under the leadership of Johannes Jülg, the third generation to helm the winery. Johannes honed his skills in top German estates and Domaine des Lambrays in Burgundy, further refining the Jülg style and focusing on organic viticulture.
The winery embraces a diverse tapestry of soils – lime, red sandstone, gravel, and loess – providing the perfect home for each grape varietal. Interestingly, half the vineyards straddle the French border, making the winery team daily "border crossers." But the vines, like the team themselves, care only about quality wine, not nationality. They are dedicated to nurturing the land, ensuring the grapes' optimal health. This meticulous care extends to a 100% hand-harvesting approach, with a team partially from Alsace, all united by a shared passion for exceptional wine.
Weingut Jülg's story is one of unwavering commitment, etched in the very terroir of their Pfalz and Seebach vineyards. Three generations of Jülgs have fostered a deep connection to the land, not just cultivating grapes but nurturing the entire ecosystem through sustainable practices. This respect for their environment translates into a dynamic approach, where knowledge from past harvests informs present decisions and a thirst for innovation ensures they adapt to changing conditions. The result is wines that capture the ever-evolving essence of the Pfalz in every bottle.
