The Arzuaga winery is in Valladolid, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin. The wines come from La Planta, an estate belonging to the Arzuaga family in Quintanilla de Onésimo, in the province of Valladolid. This is an excellent location for vine-growing, as the plants receive the sun and moisture they need for the grapes to ripen perfectly.
There can be no doubt that Arzuaga wines are made based on three premises: the soil, the climate and the orientation of the vineyards. The local flora and fauna coexist perfectly with the vines in La Planta. The flora includes pines, holm oaks and savin juniper, and, among the animals are wild boars and red deer. This coexistence clearly shows the love the Arzuaga family feels for the natural world. The estate covers 1,400 hectares (3,500 acres) in a wonderful location in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin area: its Golden Mile. In the early 1990s, after buying the La Planta estate, Florentino Arzuaga began planting vines, building the winery and, of course, making wine.

ABOUT
The grapes to make this wine are the Tempranillo variety grown on 25-year-old vines on our La Planta estate, which is at an altitude of 911 m (2,989 ft) in the Golden Mile of La Ribera del Duero at Quintanilla de Onésimo in the province of Valladolid. The estate is special because of its unusual chalky clay soil, with unfragmented bedrock just one metre below the surface.
TASTING NOTES
High aromatic intensity; where notes of acidic red fruits stand out, strawberries and raspberries predominate. Notes of pine, citrus, passion fruit and oral hints. Clean and bright. Pale salmon in color with nude trim with very little color extraction. Wide, fresh and friendly palate.
FOOD PAIRINGS
This wine can have a perfect harmony with many dishes such as vegetable cream, mountain rice, seafood, fried fish, charcuterie, white meats and roasted poultry as well as sushi or sashimi dishes.
VINIFICATION
The grapes with which this wine is made were harvested on September 22, 2021 being the first red grapes to enter Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro. This promptness in carrying out the harvest allows us to acquire the ideal technical and organoleptic characteristics for this wine. After the harvest, which is carried out in the coolest hours of the day and manually, always in boxes of no more than 10 kg, it is taken little by little and quickly to the winery where a very gentle pressing will be carried out in batches of 500 kg. With this we achieve that the extraction of color is necessary for the required characteristics. The temperatures below 12 degrees with which the grapes enter the winery are preserved throughout the fermentation process. Due to which the alcoholic fermentation takes place very slowly, lasting 30 days. After fermentation, it is naturally decanted and bottled to preserve its vibrancy and freshness.

ABOUT
This wine has been elaborated from grapes cultivated at the state La Planta, owned by Arzuaga Navarro’s family in Quintanilla de Onésimo, the heart of Ribera del Duero. The soil is clay-calcareous and the subsoil is pure limestone at one meter under the surface. The vineyard altitude is 911 meters over the sea level. These specific conditions provide the distinctive features of the wine.
TASTING NOTES
Medium-high color intensity with cherry red hues and violet rims that denote the youth of the wine. High aromatic intensity, with a great variety of fruits, where the aromas of red fruits stand out and the acid strawberry and cherry predominate and along with these the notes of scrubland and resins, mineral touches and roasted aromas typical of its stay in the barrel. Balance and harmony between the taste components, we are faced with a structured, meaty wine that always amazes for its smoothness and freshness typical of our La Planta wine.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Fried fish, sausage, white meats, roasted poultry, rice and cheeses.
VINIFICATION
The grapes are harvested in the coolest hours of the day, searching for the ideal maturity parameters for this type of wine, enhancing the olfactory-gustatory characteristics of freshness that will later develop in the wine. Once in the winery, they are covered to carry out a cold pre-fermentation maceration for two days in stainless steel tanks before carrying out the alcoholic fermentation for another 7 days at 22ºC. Once the fermentations are nished, they will be aged for six months in French and American oak barrels.

Organic wine made only with grapes from a single 'Valdesardón' estate owned by the Arzuaga Navarro family. It is the westernmost vineyard in the D.O. TASTING NOTES
Medium high intensity, clean and bright where the cherry red color predominates with purple ashes. The range of red fruits such as raspberry and cherry predominate with a high aromatic intensity, combining with balsamic tones, coffee and roasted notes typical of its stay in the barrel. This will not mask the fruit that has full prominence. Fresh and elegant wine, with an easy and balanced entry into the mouth leaving sensations of meatiness and volume in the passage through it. Slightly sweet and toasted notes and a pleasant and balanced aftertaste where we recall all the fruity tones detected in the olfactory phase.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Ideal companion for red meat, white meat, game and game, bluefish and soft cheeses.
VINIFICATION
At the optimum point of maturation, the bunches are harvested in 15 kg boxes and then they will pass through a selection table and will be destemmed until they are packed in stainless steel tanks where, aer a few days cold macerating, they will ferment at around 25ºC. Ribera del Duero is Castilla y Léon’s most renowned wine region, making top Tempranillo wines that can rival Rioja. Its vineyards benefit from high altitudes with some planted higher than 850 metres above sea level. Its continental climate — bitterly cold winters, scorching summers — is preserved by the region’s encircling mountains.
